I am Saraswati Dangol-Rasaily. I am born on 3 January 1977 in Thamel, a famous neighbourhood of Kathmandu, Nepal. My family consists of my mother, one younger sister and two younger brothers. My father passed away when I was fifteen. Two years ago I got married with a kind and loving man, Rajendra Rasaily. Since then I am living in Belgium with my husband. After doing my high school I joined in 1991 the 'New Himalchuli Cultural Group' in Kathmandu where I learned Nepalese classical and traditional folk dances from dance-directors Radheshyam Pradhan and Bed Gurung respectively. With 'New Himalchuli Cultural Group' I had the opportunity to learn and work simultaneously for couple of years. In the beginning my parents were not in favour of my joining dance group, specially my father. He was afraid of the conservative society. As the girls and women performing in the public were considered as characterless person. Fortunately my uncle Nhyuchhe Bahadur Dangol, one of the famous Tabla and other Nepalese instrument player, with his kind courageous advise and support I got inspired and gave continuity to dance. Since then I completely dedicated myself to Nepalese dance and I never stopped dancing. However my parents tried many times to forbid me to dance but they never succeed. I still don't understand how I managed to go against the will of my parents and what was that power that gave continuity to my dance! There are always good and bad experiences in your life. I also went through lot of bitter as well as pleasant experiences in the past as I very much wanted to learn and perform Nepalese dance. The man I fell in love with: Three years ago, I performed a Nepalese folk dance here in Belgium during a Nepalese New Year cultural program, organised by Nepal Sanskrit Samaj-Belgium, I happen to meet a sensible kind young man who was present as a video-cameraman. In the very first conversation he expressed that he very much liked my dance performance and he started to admire me. Gradually we became good friends. After few months we realised that we were more than friends, I mean we actually fell in love! We got married on 18 May 2002. My husband supports and inspires me to show and introduce Nepalese culture in Belgium. He respects and loves me as I am. That's why I respect him with all my heart. These days I lead a very peaceful and happy life with my loving husband. Sometimes I read 'Kamana', it's a Nepalese film and music magazine just like 'Stardust. I also love to listen Nepalese songs from the Internet, as there is no Nepalese radio in Belgium. Besides dancing I also like to sing. When my husband is busy working on the computer I am not allowed to sing, as he cannot concentrate on his work. Even then I sing, he stops working and starts to listen my singing. I find it nice and feel so happy when he listens attentively my song, how am I to explain, I don't know! But work is work, you know? When I was in Nepal, I always dreamed to work hard to become a top photo model, dance and a good actress in Nepalese film world. My dream didn't come true due to many unfavourable circumstances. Well, I have not yet given up! My dream to become a photo model will come true in near future with the help of my loving husband. He makes my pictures in different moods and dresses as much as I request him. He reworks and retouches on those photos together with my idea. He says often 'Puja, you are a star of my world'. I feel very happy to hear his complements. One of my hobbies is also to laugh and make people laugh! So people having problem to laugh please come to Belgium and become my friend. I will make you laugh. To laugh is a great medicine to live a healthy life, I think! I like to help and support my husband in his volunteer work for Nepali Sanskrit Samaj-Belgium and The Himalayan Society -St. Truiden. I shall do this until I am able to. text18Nepali Movie's dancetext19Nepali Folk dancetext20Group danstext21met DATA BECKERtext22In Nepal during the time with New Himalchuli Cultural Group, I had the opportunity to perform my dance in different Nepalese movies. Some of them are: Gothalo, Deuta, Shankar, Nirmohi, Chhahari, Dharma Sankat, Bishalu and so on. I also performed many on stage solo and group dances with the colleagues of Himalchuli Cultural Group in Nepal. Many of these performances were done in Rastriya Nachghar (National Theatre), Rajakiya Pragya Pratishthan (Royal Nepal Academy) in Kathmandu and Birendra Sabhagriha in Pokhara. In Belgium I started performing since 2001 in various cultural programs organised by different Nepalese foundations and organisations like Nepal Sanskrit Samaj, Tamu Samaj, BNTB, Vrienden van Nepal etc. Please visit our website to see the photos of the cultural programs: http://www.nepalimitra.com I take also part in different cultural activities organised by Himchuli Cultural Group-Netherlands.
